What is the perfect career? For anybody asked that question, the reply will be different. The range will be huge but I suspect some trends will become clear. Football or some form of sport will almost certainly feature heavily (as long as it comes with Premier League remuneration). Others will naturally revolve around the entertainment industry with plenty of people wanting to be the singer or guitar players for their favourite band, tv or movie star and plenty of men will want to be porn stars although how many female leads they will really find to ‘work’ with may turn out to be a disappointment.
For me, the reply will have to involve being able to Work From Home since I have always despised travelling and I’ve worked at jobs that have involved being away from home for the week because of the distance beforehand and I definitely don’t want to go back to that again.
Previous jobs that I’ve done that let me to Work From Home have included having an Internet Business where I operated a record shop on eBay which was great fun, buying people’s old vinyl record collections and then selling the individual records although you quickly find that where Pink Floyd, Elvis and Bob Dylan albums can go for lots of money, you also end up getting clogged up with dozens of copies of Eurythmics, Bananarama and Wham! records. What I hadn’t calculated was the cost of relisting when records didn’t sell first time around and eventually had to stop.
I’ve also performed various Online Jobs which are perfect because the internet, software and technology that are operated on it make it an excellent environment to start up as an Internet Business and people can Work From Home with minimal technical abilities.
But I think that on the whole, I’d like a selection. Some which pay very well and these would most probably be Online Jobs of some description that would be enjoyable to do such as Search Engine Optimisation, with the rest of the time spent being a professional railway modeller. That sounds sad, but in fact involves a wide assortment of skills from design, carpentry, electrical and structural engineering (a smaller scale by default but much safer than the real thing) not to mention God like abilities to sculpt a landscape and the topology on it. A good model railway is often stunning to behold and creating one must come with an immense feeling of contentment. And of course, because it’s my ideal job I’d be the most famous in the world and can charge huge fees for my work.
I’d also like to be a professional cricket fan which will involve going with the England team on tour around the hotter parts of the world in United Kingdom winter. Having Online Jobs would obviously of course mean that I would be able to multitask by doing those in parallel wherever I was in the world, so I could kindly demand lower fees for my services to the Barmy Army and make up the balance by working for my Internet Business.
But alas, the world doesn’t do it that way for most though of course many will say that their job to be their perfect one. But for the rest of us the only thing to do is to make the best of what we have. That is aimed at someone else by the way, not me as funnily enough I think I do have my perfect job. So there!
